WHAT ERA ARE WE LIVING IN?

 Society has been living in an ironic era. At the same time that exploration of Mars advances and the chance of inhabiting another planet might be real, there is a growing cast of people, that believe and defend that the Earth is flat. There are also groups against vaccines, just to mention two examples of modernity ignorance. 

People that believe in what was mentioned above are responsible for a disservice to society. Even though many concrete pieces of evidence prove the Earth is spherical and the importance of vaccines against a massive number of diseases, the proliferation of pressure groups against scientific facts, especially on the internet, on a global scale, is huge. 

Although the arguments of those groups might be weak and stale, they became a fecund field for demagogues politicians such as Donald Trump, in the USA, and Jair Bolsonaro, in Brazil. On top of that when politicians of that level wield their significant power, society experiences multiple setbacks in crucial areas such as science, social issues and especially diplomacy. As a consequence, some societies sink into cultural and economic ostracism. 

All things considered, this ironic era we have been living in is a uniquely propitious time for human beings to find a balance as a species, focusing on what is meaningful and what should be questioned or not, in a way the entire society may participate and enjoy its achievements. Otherwise, any place we might inhabit, Earth or Mars, will be an inhospitable place to live.
